Where Do You Rank on the Leadership Ladder?

If you’re like most, you have seen numerous Leadership Ladders where management experts outline the desired progression of leadership skills. My SAOL (Strategic, Agile, Organizational, Leadership) Leadership Ladder is a little different.  It’s rooted more in today’s workplace reality of stages where leadership may start out as nothing more than “title only.”

We all know situations where the best and brightest of employees are promoted to management based on stellar performance versus management or people skills.  Many can flounder in their new managerial role negatively impacting themselves, their staff and the company. The challenge of every organization is to candidly assess and identify every leader with a clear progression to advance their development.   The challenge for every leader is to do the same.

Self-Select Where You and the Majority of Your Organization’s Leaders Rank

Here’s my SAOL “Leadership Ladder” I prefer to use when helping clients develop their managerial talent.  It succinctly captures the primary contribution of leaders at each level.

What Now?

Use this progressive ladder as you or your organization’s guideline for developing leadership strength.  As a leader, regardless of your level, it is your responsibility to approach your superiors with a desire and a plan to further enhance your skill sets with a goal of inspiring higher performance for yourself and others.

If you are a company leader, this SAOL Leadership Ladder should become your dynamic leadership template for developing EVERY leader within your organization.

As John Maxwell said, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”  Do everything in your power to help yourself and your organization’s leaders embody this principle and ‘move up the ladder.’
